Stress Relieving
Typical steels treated:
This treatment can actually be applied to the full range of steels or combination of. This heat treatment is processed below the transformation temperature and is generally performed to relieve internal stresses in the steel induced by welding, bending, severe machining or any other manipulative process.
The procedure is to load at a low temperature raise temperature slowly so as not to induce thermal stresses. Then hold at a temperature relevant to the specific steel then cool slowly again so as not to induce thermal stresses. Finally the steel is Still Air cooled outside of the furnace to ambient. Con Mech can follow any thermal profile extremely accurately both in raising and lowering the temperature.
Tight temperature tolerances must be followed so as not to diminish any mechanical properties in the steel. This is particularly important when dealing with already hardened & tempered products. The final product exhibits a dusty red finish easily removable by shotblasting. As an alternative to shotblasting the heat treatment can be processed in sealed retorts to minimise the scaling effect. Shotblast facilities are available at Con Mech.
Health & Safety
All heat treated products are removed from furnace and transported by charging machine safely to cooling tables in a controlled manner .Full risk assessments have been carried out and are available on request.
